Why
When AI tools began to emerge, Brendan FitzGerald — a producer and filmmaker who had navigated a competitive industry while living with dyslexia and ADHD — saw an opportunity that others missed. He recognized the profound impact AI tools will have on neurodivergent creatives like himself: people with boundless imagination who had simply never had the right tools to fully express it.
He reached out to his friend Tobias Boonstoppel, a former Google Software Engineer, and together they set out to build something meaningful. Not just a product, but a solution born from lived experience. The result was Stringout.
At its heart is the index card — a simple, timeless tool that writers and filmmakers have long relied on to organize complex ideas and stories. For Brendan, index cards had always been more than a creative aid. They were one of his most important coping tools; a tactile, visual way to map out intricate storylines and bring order to the kind of fast-moving, expansive thinking that comes with ADHD. They had helped him survive and thrive in an industry that wasn't built for minds like his.
Now, infused with AI, the humble index card becomes something extraordinary — capable of generating long-form written projects while giving the user complete scene-by-scene creative control. Stringout doesn't just help people make movies. It changes who gets to make them.
How it works
Stringout isn't meant to write the screenplay for you — why would anyone want that? Instead, it helps you build the story you want while giving the AI the building blocks it needs to create authentic narratives with dynamic characters and compelling story arcs.
Initialize
Open and name a new project file.
The Foundation
Open the Notepad and draft a log line. Don't worry — this will evolve as your story develops.
The Blueprint
Write a quick outline to map out your narrative beats.
Character Development
Open the Index Card section to create your characters. Provide as many details as possible; the more depth you give them, the better the AI can help you maintain their unique voice.
World Building
Open the Locations tab and build out your settings to ground your story.
Scene Construction
Open the Scenes tab and build your screenplay scene by scene. Let the AI handle the time-consuming heavy lifting of generating initial text. You can open each scene card to edit the script, ask the AI for creative suggestions, and refine the dialogue as you go.
Export
Once you're ready, export your document as either a PDF or an FDX file for use in industry-standard screenwriting software.
